Came across this on ebay... looks pretty sweet! This guy is fabbing intakes for the Virago 700 750 920 1100. The new intake brings the carbs out front under the tank for easy access, and he claims it doesn't interfere with petcocks or legs with a mid-control set up. The intake is finished in ceramic chrome; looks pretty sharp. Too bad I'm going to forward controls (Not really bad) and can't use it!

Ok all have a question for all you virago owners out there ... First of all ive owned a 1990 virago xv750 for about 3 years now ... ever since i bought this bike ive loved everything about it except the 1 problem its had since ive owned it ... i have a cylinder dropping under 3000 rpm and its getting the best of me and every garage its been in ... Heres what i have had done ...

new stator
new rectifier/regulator
carbs synced and cleaned
valves adjusted
have had alkot of other stuff done but too long of a list to mention ... only thing left is ignitor or pickups? But it will do it sometimes and otherts it wont ... kinda a hit or miss thing and know mechanic so far has been able to find whats going on ... but it does it always when its under 3000 rpm ... over 3000 rpm its clears up and runs like a dream ... and its always the rear cylinder dropping ... but its getting good spark to the rear cylinder ... so i thought maybe someone has any idea or has had this problem and can give me some kind of direction to go because the money ive spent in garage labor is eating my wallet and my wifes patients ... lol ...Any help would be appreciated more than you know and thank you very much in advance ... Be safe and ride often

I'm aware that the mains are different sizes, but I found the bigger one in the front carb. That doesn't make sense. I was under the impression that the slightly larger one was in the rear carb to help with cooling.

Mr. Clymer says cylinder 1 has the smaller jet, and cylinder 2 has the larger jet, but that seems to be the only place in the book it refers to the cylinders as such. Most of the other references are to front and rear cylinders. I did see something on this site about Yamaha referring to #1 as rear, and #2 as front, but I'll be damned if I can find it again, (yes, I did use "search").

Hey, I'm new here. I have mostly GS Suzukis, (1100s and 750s), but my wife has a 1984 Yamaha 750 Virago. Before you guys think I'm on crack, remember, I'm from Canada. The 700 is a US only bike. The rest of the world got 750s during the "Harley complaining years".

ANYWHO, I decided I might get some info here on the Virago. For the most part, it's been pretty reliable over the years, but lately it's starting having some issues, that's why I'm here. I've posted a few questions already, and even answered a question! Hopefully I'll get some answers and maybe I might even be of some help to someone.

Does anybody now what the float height is for a 1984 Yamaha XV750? Yes, I said 750, it's a Canadian model. The numbers on the float bowl are HSC40-4 and 42Y 00 40405. The 42Y is also prefix for the bike's VIN number.

ANYHOW, all the bikes I've ever dealt with give you a measurement from the carb body gasket surface to the top of the float with the tab just touching the needle. The only measurement good ol' Mr. Clymer gives is for some stupid tube trick once the carbs are on the bike filled with fuel!! Let me get this straight, if it's not right, you have to rip the carbs off of the bike AGAIN to set it correctly? Who thought of this? Oh yeah, the same guys that thought it was a good idea to have to remove the exhaust pipes on a V-Star 1100 to change the oil filter!

Anyhow, enough of my ranting. Does anybody have any ideas? No doubt Hitachi carbs used on Viragos are pretty much the same worldwide.

Howdy Folks -

I just picked up a '96 535 last night for a silly price. She's a little road worn from city life, and some a** tried to jack it using a screwdriver in the ignition, and there's a few other busted pieces, but for the price, what the hell! I've got some wrenching background, so I'm not afraid of any of that stuff. Can't wait to get the new ignition switch in and hit the road! Looking to put some saddle bags on so I can use her for short hops to the store - any recommendations?

Thanks!

Hello, I just joined the forum with the hopes of picking a few brains out there. I currently own and ride a 2008 Yamaha V Star 1300 Tourer. But my brother-in-law is looking to get rid of a 1981 Virago 750 that is currently mostly in pieces. The idea intrigues me as I would love to nurse a classic back to health. But what really interests me is that my wife said she would love for me to restore it so that she could ride. Anything I can do to get her interested in riding would make me very happy.

So, I'll hang out on this forum and learn what I can. But if any of you have any suggestions as to where I can pick up good ideas on restoring an '81 Virago, I would very much appreciate the advice. I'm not a purist, so I don't need to make it look exactly like it did when Yamaha brought the first Japanese V Twin to the market. In fact, I would be interested in any and all improvements that could be made on the original design.
Thanks in advance.
